How tourist tax is calculated
Cities charge a visitor / city / bed tax in one of three ways. This tool applies the right one per city:
- Percentage of the room rate (e.g. Amsterdam 12.5%, Berlin 7.5%) โ charged per room, per night.
- Flat amount per person, per night (e.g. Lisbon โฌ4) โ multiplied by guests and nights.
- Tiered by accommodation (e.g. Venice, Paris, Rome) โ a per-person, per-night amount that rises with the hotel's star rating.
Many cities cap the tax after a number of nights and exempt children โ both are applied where they exist.
Accuracy & currency
Each city page shows the effective date and links the official source. Amounts are shown in EUR for comparison; a few cities set their tax in their own currency (GBP, CZK) and the EUR figure is approximate โ always confirm on the official page before you travel.
This is an estimate for trip planning, not tax advice. Rates and exemptions change.
